Defensive Pistol

The Defensive Pistol Course focuses on the techniques needed to develop a defensive mindset. The goal of the course is to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly and with confidence. As a result of participating in this course, you are able to explain and demonstrate the following:

  • how to apply the rules for Safe Gun Handling when carrying a concealed firearm
  • basic principles of concealment
  • how to utilize the difference between cover and concealment
  • drawing from the holster and re-holstering
  • levels of mental awareness
  • developing the proper mindset when using a pistol for personal protection
  • clearing common stoppages
  • reloading under stress
  • moving off the line of attack and shooting
  • use of pocket pistols
  • and more.

Prerequisites

Individuals wishing to take this course must already have taken (and have proof of) the Personal Protection in the Home course

Equipment / Supplies Needed for Class

  1. Suitable handgun for defensive carry (due to ammo prices/shortages, .22lr handguns will be permitted – no single action revolvers)
  2. At least 200 rounds of ammunition
  3. Quality strong side hip holster (IWB or OWB)
  4. Belt designed to carry the weight of a handgun
  5. At least three magazines
  6. Recommended magazine holster for your spare magazines
  7. Ear protection
  8. Eye protection
